ABOUT CHRIS
Chris was born of a British father and a South African mother in Durban, South Africa and grew up listening to music of all genres during his early life. Chris’ mother was an accomplished pianist, organist and music teacher and it wasn’t long before Chris was being taught the basics of piano music. At age 10, Chris had reached a level of competency required to be playing in Eisteddfods. However, when the first Hammond organ arrived at the house, Chris abandoned the piano for the organ and was soon playing tunes such as Time Is Tight and others for family gatherings.
When Chris reached high school, he joined the school’s cadet band and, after trying out as a bugler and failing miserably, he decided that he wanted to be one of the side drummers. So.. at age 12 Chris found himself marching up and down the school field, playing the side drum for the band. After leaving school years later, Chris talked his parents into buying him a drum kit and promptly joined a pop covers band, playing at functions and parties around Natal.
Chris is an accomplished drummer, guitarist and vocalist and has played keyboards, the drums and the guitar through most of his teenage and adult life. He has a good singing voice and when he was a teenager, used to be much in demand at beach parties strumming his six-string guitar and singing songs from the day.
Chris and his wife Cindy moved to the UK in 1993 and until 2020 considered the UK to be home. Chris and Cindy moved to the Charente (France) in December 2020, currently living in Brossac. They do try and visit the UK and South Africa as often as time and money allows.
Chris has always loved Country music and after drumming and singing in a Cliff & The Shadows tribute band (The Silver Shadows) for some 10 years, made the decision in 2011 to form a Country band. Chris also goes out as a Duo with Alan Waite – an accomplished keyboard man with a great voice. The Duo is known as Kenward Country.
Chris’ SOLO act is newer and the decision to begin performing as a solo artist was made after several phone calls asking if he’d perform as a solo act.
